This Term: Autumn 1

Year 4 are learning about being E-Aware and understanding online safety, making sure we are confident and safe digitally.

Through this unit of work we will identify the meaning of the word ‘cyberbullying’ and the online dangers. We will understand ways we can stay safe online. Year 4 will identify cyberbullying and understand its’ consequences promoting active and open discussions to allow an openness to talk about cyberbullying. Children will be able to understand that not everything we see on the internet is real. 
Pupils will be able to understand that we should not judge ourselves by what we see online and that what people post on social media is not always the whole story. We will discuss what is meant by a ‘digital footprint’ and develop and understanding of how our actions online affect our digital footprint. We will learn how to keep our information safe online and understand what is meant by the term ‘Fake News’
as well as start to understand the reasons why Fake News is used in our world. We will develop strategies for recognising Fake News as a class. Children will learn that when a photo is uploaded to the internet, it is there forever and understand that you should ask a persons’ permission before uploading a picture of them. Furthermore they will recognise that sometimes pictures on the internet have been edited and understand that what we see online is not always what we think it is as it is easy for people to lie online.
