Year 5 English - Autumn

This term we are writing stories about a boy who gets a gift.

We will tell the story of how he changes from being grumpy and only caring about his computer game, to someone much more cheerful, all thanks to his special present. 

We will also be writing about an important Ancient Egyptian pharaoh, called Hapshepsut, who was one of only a few women to be pharaoh. 

We will be writing her biography, inlcuding how she came to power, what kind of leader she was and what happened to her country after she died.

Our first poem of the year will be based on the famous work The HighwayMan.

This poem tells the story of the famous road side robber from two hundred years ago. It is based on the legend of the real Highway Man, Dick Turpin. If you want to know more, have a look at the Horrible Histories song all about him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYU-vSh7ORA 

Another exciting piece of writing just in time for christmas!

We will be writing the story of The Snowman, by Raymond Briggs,  thinking about Christmas characters coming to life to celebrate the festive season with us.
