Prayer and Liturgy

At Corpus Christi Catholic Primary School, prayer and liturgy are central to our life as a Catholic community. Guided by the Prayer and Liturgy Directory “To Love You More Dearly” (2023), we seek to nurture a culture of prayer that helps every child grow in faith and develop a personal relationship with God.

We are committed to providing opportunities for all pupils to know, love and serve God. Through prayer and worship, children deepen their understanding of the Catholic faith and its traditions while learning to live as thoughtful, compassionate members of a diverse and multicultural society.

Prayer and liturgy are ways in which we give glory, honour, praise and thanks to God. Prayer is our loving response to God’s invitation to enter into relationship with Him. This relationship is made possible through the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and strengthened through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

At Corpus Christi, Christ is at the heart of everything we do. Prayer shapes the rhythm of our school day, influences our values and supports the development of a caring, respectful and faith-filled community.

Daily Prayer

Prayer takes place throughout each school day. These moments help pupils develop habits of reflection, gratitude and trust in God.

Daily prayer includes:

Morning prayer to begin the school day
Grace before and after meals
Prayer at the end of the day
Opportunities for quiet reflection and personal prayer
Classrooms include prayer spaces or focus tables to support children in developing their own prayer life.

Celebration of the Word

Pupils regularly gather together for Celebrations of the Word, where they listen to Scripture, reflect on the message of the Gospel, and respond through prayer, music and reflection.

These celebrations take place:

  • In classrooms
  • Within Key Stages
  • Whole-school gatherings

Children are encouraged to take an active role in planning and leading prayer and liturgy, helping them develop confidence and ownership of their faith as they progress through the school.

The Liturgical Year

Our prayer and liturgy programme reflects the liturgical calendar of the Church. Throughout the year we mark important seasons and celebrations such as:

Advent
Christmas
Lent
Easter
Pentecost
We also celebrate important Feast Days and take time to reflect on global events, charitable work such as that supported by CAFOD and the lives of inspirational people who live out Gospel values.

Mass and Parish Links

As part of our Catholic identity, we gather to celebrate school Masses and liturgical services at important times during the year. Led by Father Paul, these celebrations strengthen the link between our school, parish and families.

Parents, carers and members of the wider community are warmly welcomed to join us in these celebrations whenever possible.

Growing in Faith Together

Through our shared prayer and liturgy – whether in classrooms, assemblies, school celebrations or parish worship – we seek to plant the seeds of faith in the hearts of our children.

By praying together as a community, we aim to help every child grow in their knowledge and love of Our Lord Jesus Christ, developing the values, compassion and faith that will guide them throughout their lives.
