Hello everybody, I am Mrs Moran and am really enjoying getting to know all of the children in Reception.

Mrs Smart and Mrs Dodson, Reception  One-to-One Support Assistant

Hello, we are Mrs Smart and Mrs Dodson. We can't wait to see how you guys have all grown and changed over the summer.

Our Routine

The school day begins at 8:50am and the children should line up on the playground with the rest of the school.  When we arrive in class the children put their belongings away and sit on the carpet for register.  Every morning the children have 30 minutes Read, Write Inc. every morning we learn new sounds and practise previous sounds. After Read, Write Inc. we have a small carpet time when we begin our English sessions. The children are then given free choice throughout the foundation unit with some adult directed tasks avaliable. Around 10am the children enjoy snack time, they can choose from a range of healthy snacks, with milk or water. Our maths sessions begins around 10:25am and will normally begin with a small carpet session. As before the children will then have the opportunity to access our continuous provisions with adult directed tasks. Around 11:30 the children will enjoy story time. Lunchtime begins at 12 noon and ends at 1:30pm. Our afternoon sessions range from craft activities, Come and See sessions and laptop and iPad time.

PE takes place on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Traditional Tales

This term we have been looking at Traditional Tales. We will be looking at Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and the three bears, The Gingerbread Man, The Three Billy Goats Gruff, The Little Red Hen, The Three Pigs, The Enormous Turnip and Jack and the Beanstalk. We will sequence the stories, discuss the characters and compare the morals of the stories. This theme will carried across the curriculum and will be used within expressive arts, knowledge and understanding of the world, physical education and maths.

Every Friday your child will recieve phonics homework to practise their sounds from that week and a maths board game to practise their maths skills.

Every Monday your child should bring in their reading books for us to change. Please use the comprhension sheets with their book to question their understanding of the story.
